Sorry for the hiatus – life seems to get crazy this time of year! For this edition of our Equestrian Performer Spotlight, we had a fun interview with Karla Switzer (formerly Karla Ribordy – congratulations on your recent marriage!). Karla is an extremely talented performer and trainer, specializing in liberty, trick riding, and reining.
At what age did you start riding?
Age 15
First performance?
All American quarter horse congress in front of about 12000 people ( I was terrified)
How did you get started?
I got started mostly with Jennifer Gatrel. She recommended and hired me for several shows.
First performance?
“Girl on fire” at the all American quarter horse congress
Favorite breed?
I love several different breeds for a few different reasons. I love reining so a good quarter horse. But for Liberty I actually love Arabians. They’re sensitive yet loyal.
How many horses do you own?
I own three horses and two ponies.
Mouse is my first horse I got her when I was 15 from a kill lot in Kansas. Heaven is a rescue from a friend. She broke her neck when a trainer flipped her over upside down. Together They Roman ride .
Who inspires you?
A lot of people for a lot of different reasons. Jennifer Gatrel , Jessica Blair. Robin Shoeller .
What is your favorite thing about what you do?
I love horses in general!
Advice to up and coming performers?
Stay humble, pride always comes before a fall. And horses have a way of keeping us that way.

If you could be an animal what would you be?
A dolphin.

My ponies ????????(literally the ponies)

Ability to live underwater.
